Financial Assistance

Westside Neighborhood School welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is committed to accepting students from families who reflect both the cultural and socio-economic diversity of our city. To this purpose, WNS offers financial assistance to both returning and new applicant families in the form of discounted tuition for those who do not have the resources to pay full tuition and would not otherwise be able to enroll their children at WNS.
WNS’s financial assistance program is funded primarily from school revenue, with a small amount coming from other sources. WNS follows NAIS best practices in the administration of its program. The school strives to make grants available to as many qualified families as possible. Consideration is given first to renewing families, next to WNS families applying for the first time, and then to new applicant families.
There are two forms of financial assistance offered by WNS.
Traditional Financial Assistance
Traditional Financial Assistance is available to both new and returning families. Funds are awarded on the basis of demonstrated need. Parents apply by filing an online application and submitting back-up documentation. Applications are renewed annually.
- The due date for returning WNS families who are renewing their FA applications or applying for the first time is Monday, January 24, 2011.
- The due date for financial assistance applications from prospective families is Friday, February 4, 2011.
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP is designed for current WNS families who may not qualify for traditional financial assistance and who need some financial support due to a temporary financial emergency, unemployment or underemployment, or who are doing all they can reasonably do and feel paying for a WNS education is slipping from their reach. TAP may be able to help in several ways: providing a tuition grant from $500 to $2,000 per child, arranging a customized payment plan, or a combination of the two. TAP grants, like financial assistance, are awarded on a year-by-year basis, and families must reapply each year.
- The due date for TAP applications is Monday, January 24, 2011.
