This summer WNS is offering a special performing arts program for grades second through eighth. We will use the Kinetic Heads curriculum structure combining fine arts and performing arts. Miss Allen and Mr. Rodriguez are excited to see you there!
Session 1: June 25 - July 13, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

This exciting program includes a
mask making project as well as a
silent movie project. Students will make their own masks, which they will use as a prop or costume piece in a silent movie with they will make in small groups. These movies will then me used in fun exercises using voice over and imrov activities. Students will learn how to interpret movement, communicate through body language, performance skills, story telling, plot structure, how to make short films, and a bit on the history of the magical time of silent movies. A short performance will be shar ed on our last day of class.

Session 2: July 16 - August 3, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

During the second session, we will explore the history of storytelling through an exploration of our system of constellations. Both the art of storytelling and constellations have been an important part of our society for many years. The fascinating figures that we see in the night sky are so large and so beautiful that we have felt a very strong urge to attach importance to them. People have done this throughout the ages by creating very interesting stories and legends in an attempt to explain where these large "pictures" in the sky came from. These stories, also known as mythology, behind the constellations can be as interesting as studying the constellations themselves. During our three-week session, you will design and create your own constellation, as well as develop the history of your constellation’s existence. Through a variety of visual and performing arts activities, students will broaden their knowledge of the constellation system, develop a strong understanding of the history of storytelling, and create a performance to be showcased at the end of summer school for the entire WNS community to enjoy.
