The mission and purpose of the Westside Neighborhood School Parent Group is to support the policies and goals of the Board of Trustees, administration, faculty and staff of Westside Neighborhood School (“WNS”). As such, the WNS Parent Group functions as the major vehicle for parental support of and involvement in the school and its activities. All parents or legal guardians of students currently enrolled at WNS are considered members of the WNS Parent Group and no membership fee is required.

Among its many functions, the WNS Parent Group coordinates numerous volunteering opportunities at the school such as library, art, and science assistants, serving hot lunch, play yard duty, and school events. It supports the school community by organizing volunteers for the various needs of the school, including school functions, like the annual school picnic, the Harvest Festival Carnival and the Spring Event. The WNS Parent Group works, in conjunction with the administration and staff, to provide many opportunities for parents to be involved in the school and their child’s life at school.

In addition, the WNS Parent Group provides and supports a variety of additional programs that benefit the school. For example, each year the WNS Parent Group sponsors an educational program at which an expert speaks to the parent body on a particular topic. Prior programs have included speakers on internet safety and establishing good study habits. Other programs provided by the WNS Parent Group are the sale and distribution of P.E. clothes and organizing the hot lunch program. The WNS Parent Group also sponsors, organizes and manages various fund-raising activities that directly benefit the school.

The WNS Parent Group is led by a Board, elected annually by the WNS Parent Group body at large, who meet on a monthly basis. The Board consists of a president, and one or more vice presidents in charge of “Volunteers,” “Programs,” and “Fundraising,” a Treasurer and a Secretary.

The WNS Parent Group is an active and integral part of the WNS school community. Its members participate in and assist in the social and cultural activities of the school, working to maintain the close relationship that exists between the school, the students, and their parents. The excellent support the school receives from the WNS Parent Group works to enrich the WNS school community for everyone.
